Flight Centre's marketing manager, Michelle Smith, sat down with Dubai Eye's The Ticket to send their listeners to the city of love, Paris, and reveal this weeks Deal of the Week!
Experiential travel is becoming the most talked about trend in travel at the moment - when we travel we don't want to be hearded through a city from landmark to landmark and falling victim to tourist traps, rather, we want to feel the heartbeat of the city and live and breathe it like a local does. Travelling should be immersive and food lies at the heart of most unforgettable travel experiences - I will never forget the first time I tasted lemon gelato on the Amalfi Coast or tasting the freshest empanadas from the streets of Buenos Aires - when I travel I hunt for new food experiences, and the more quirky or conceptual the better.
Returning less than 12 hours ago from Paris and spending four days immersing myself in local life, this week's deal of the week is all about living like a local in the City of Lights - and we are going to get you there with return economy flights and 4-nights staying in St-Germain for less than AED5,000.
Where to stay
Paris is home to stunning boutique and designer hotels, and our favourite is the K+K Hotel Cayre located in St-German. The quintessentially Parisian property located right in the heart of the city radiates warm elegance; their dedicated team of concierge are commited to delivering an authentically local experience, showing you where to find the best espresso as well as hidden gems of the neighbourhood.
Where to shop
While the Dubai Mall does the name some justice, there is nothing like losing an entire day inside Galeries Lafayette Hausmann. In fact, you could lose hours in the basement alone, admiring the seemingly endless styles of shoes from Michael Kors to Marc Jacobs. For one of the most beautiful views of Paris head to the rooftop terrace where you can relax, put your feet up and soak up the stunning vista of Paris's most famous monuments.
Insider Tip: Look up! Built in the 19th century, Galeries Lafayette has one of the most stunning ceilings!
What is by far the chic-est avenue in Paris, Avenue Montaigne is home to almost all of the fashion houses including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Valentino and Celine. A designer shoppers paradise, the perfectly preened street makes for a perfect afternoon stroll. After an afternoon of shopping you've earned an espresso - head to L'Avenue, the perfect location to people watch with the Eiffel Tower peaking through the trees in the background. Oh la la.
Le Marais is undeniably the neighbourd en mode at the moment, and rightly so. The area is filled with emerging french fashion designers whose boutiques sometimes rival the quirkiness and attention to design as art galleries! Typically Parisian, the designers in Marais do simple very well - you'll find fashion essentials and minimalist interiors.
Where to eat
Dining at Le Fumoir transports you to the days of Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerland as leather bound books line the walls and stunning chandeliers overhead provide the perfect mood lighting. Located directly outside Le Louvre, the historic monument casually lies outside the restaurant windows. Le Fumoir embodies the ritz and old world glamour of Paris. Bookings essential for weekends!
Searching for the best crepe in Paris? Look no further than Breizh Cafe - located in the trendy Le Marais neighbourhood, the quintessentially Parisian creperie serves up sweet and savoury crepes that may be the highlight of your trip. You haven't lived until you've tasted the banana salted caramel.
Le Mary Celeste
This hole in the wall restaurant is located in the trendy Marais neighbourhood - they incorporate seasonal ingredients and employ a sharing concept. The menu changes daily according to sourced ingredients. The service is prompt, albeit with the typical Parisian pompous. The cocktail menu is elegant, and natural grapes are also on the menu. Worth a visit if you're a foodie looking for a chic-hipster establishment outside of the tourist traps.
How to spend a sunny afternoon
St Martin Canal
St Martin has turned a page as an emerging as a mid-scale neighbourhood - with bars and restaurants opening in the neighbourhood and drawing in hipsters with sharing concepts and the hottest Mexican Bar in the city. On a sunny day you'll find the canals spring to life with young and old taking to the banks. Whether you are there for the party, to people watch or spend an afternoon reading a book, the canals of St Martin attract an eclectic crowd that welcomes all.
