A green haven located in the Dhofar region of Oman. Salalah is famous for its monsoon season which is a good chance for Middle East residents to escape the Summer heat without having to go far. In addition to a unique climate Salalah also has a rich history as a key player in the frankincense trade. It is believed that the Queen of Sheba travelled to Salalah to buy her frankincense and even had a palace close by at one point in time. Another historic point of interest is the tomb of Job.
Situated on the south coast of Oman close the Yemeni border the city of Salalah is the traditional home of the Omani ruling family. In the past Salalah and the surrounding Dhofar region were the main producers of frankincense. During the height of the franckincense trade Salalah was a wealthy city, but its prosperity declined along with the decline in demand for the frangrant resin.
The Khareef season from June to September is a major drawcard for tourists to Salalah. The misty air brings in the rains and turns the mountains green.
