Discover a different side of Africa
Bordered by great oceans and a stunning sea to the north, Africa's beaches are nothing short of spectacular. In the north, Morocco has the best of both worlds with Mediterranean and Atlantic coastline. The two oceans meet in beach town Tangier, while the Sahara Desert joins sprawling sandy coastline in modern Agadir to the south. Still in Africa's top end, Egypt's Sinai Peninsula is fringed with resorts catering to keen divers eager to explore the underwater vistas of the Red Sea. Heading to South Africa you can watch tiny Black-footed penguins at play just outside Cape Town or catch some waves at Port Elizabeth on the Eastern Cape.
Off the coast of Tanzania, cultural melting pot Zanzibar boasts unspoiled beaches between humble fishing villages and surrounding islands perfectly suited for day trips. Further into the Indian Ocean lies the Seychelles, a smattering of islands where warm tropical waters make the perfect playground for snorkelers. The Seychelles' dreamy setting makes the islands Praslin, Mahe and La Digue popular beach honeymoon destinations where newlyweds pop champagne against the sunset and enjoy the company of sea turtles.
Continuing off the mainland further east of Madagascar, Mauritius embraces its island paradise identity wholeheartedly. If your idea of an island escape includes stunning beaches lapped by turquoise waters, leisurely village markets and practically every conceivable ocean-related activity, a holiday to Mauritius fits the bill. We can't forget Mauritius' French island neighbour, Reunion, described by some as a 'mini-Hawaii' where volcanic landscapes meet lush tropical rainforest and tumble down to glorious white beaches.
